Almost perfect!

This game is so close to being amazing. The side bars are however, infuriating. If you close them you have to close the game down and reopen and use your last save before you closed them...its even worse because so many people have complained about this yet nothings been done. Warning: SAVE OFTEN AND DONT SAVE AFTER CLOSING SIDE BAR!!

Fun but...

It was fun until my side menus disappeared and I cant turn them back on unless I start a new which that is just fantastic! The game can be a little buggy and that needs to be fixed asap. Get on it this game isnt cheap and the support with updates needs to be better. Thank you if they follow through with an update but I highly doubt they will just a pocket your 10 bucks and allow the user to deal with their iffy port. And thanks again for this 10/10 experience *sarcasm* in case you were wondering.

Good game, BIG problem!

Like everyone else has said, the sidebars NEED to be fixed. Its too easy to collapse them and its impossible to bring them back. FIX THIS ASAP! Please!

Trying to have fun

So I never played this game before. As I begin playing, this game has shown huge potential. Thing is the side bars go down, and will not be brought up again. They are a necessity for playing the game. And for so many people spending $10 on this game, you would assume the developers would help fix this. Unfortunately it looks like this problem has been going on for a very long time. I really do hope this problem gets fixed because I would like to have fun playing this game. Im positive this game would get so many better reviews and ratings were this issue solved.

Great on iPhone - side bar workaround

Love the game and so glad to have it on iOS. I noticed a lot of complaints on the side bar issue, which can definitely be frustrating - but it IS treatable. Use you iPhones zoom feature to expand the portion of the screen where the button is to return the sidebar - on either side at the bottom of the screen. When zoomed you can now click on the button to regain your bar. Still annoying, but definitely not game-breaking and gets this game back up to the five stars it deserves.

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8.x

No sidebar issue on this device. Its also worth noting that the text can be scaled up from the settings menu, which helps considerably.

Classic

This is one of the greatest RPGs if all time. The controls are a little tricky, but what can you expect on a small screen.

Not as good as they say...

I was busy playing Civilization and SimCity in the late 90s, so I missed out on the Baldurs Gate games. They are always such highly recommended games, so I thought I should play one. Yeah, I think the high acclaim for this game is nostalgia-tinted. This game is not as good as people say. The UI is clunky. Much of the game is cryptic and not self-explanatory. Gameplay is cumbersome. The voice overs (not sure if those are original to the game or not) are so awful I had to turn the voice volume down. Wish I could get my money back!

Enable File Sharing With PC Already

This is a great game. I have both the pc and ipad versions of the game. I want to be able to play the ipad version while I am away from my pc and transfer my saved games between the two. Please enable file sharing so I can do this. This is 2015, so this should be a standard feature for a game of this nature and with this much depth. The way is it right now, you have to choose between the two versions instead of embracing both of them at the same time. Come on Overhaul/Beamdog, fix this for us.

Awesome Port! iPhone 4S

Classic RPG in the palm of your hands. Extremely entertaining, and overall good port. Be sure to increase the font size for better experience, and set the pause settings to however you like. One problem is when trying to tap the top character portrait, you may close the hero panel and wont be able to reopen. Save frequently! Otherwise, its a great game and works well on iPhone.

Very poor graphics

Perhaps I am old, but the iPad version of this game is very lacking compared to the pc. The screen is very dark with no brightness options and the small nature of things makes many object difficult to interact with. Love my iPad but this game doesnt work well on the platform in my opinion.

The best of the best

Get this game. Are you reading this comment correctly? Its the BEST game youll ever play. You will fall in love with the story, the characters, the rewards, the quests, and even yourself. Buy it!

Made for the Fingers

Any old school top down RPG or point & click style game feels right at home on iOS! Instead of dragging a cursor around it feels very intuitive to simply point and have your commands met. In lieu of keyboard shortcuts, I actually find this method more enjoyable. The writing here is still the best aspect of the game; funny, engaging, and deep. The entire game has depth, don’t expect to be godlike your first time round - but the fun is deciphering the D&D gameplay mechanics! The only feedback i have preventing BG from getting 5 stars is the lack of iTunes File Sharing. Yes, you are able to export saved games to play on computer & iOS interchangeably. However, on the computer I have several custom portraits I’d like also transferred to iOS. Its not a deal breaker, but sometimes it does pull me out of the story not seeing the characters as I see them in my head. I’ve already purchased the portrait pack, but I like to have NPCs looking unique as well. This was enabled pre 8.3 update, but since it’s been blocked. Enabling the iTunes File sharing for this would be amazing! Overall, thank you Beamdog & Overhaul for giving us the ability to play on the go. Prepared to get hooked, & good luck in Faerûn!

Great port, sidebar issue is fixed

It took a little while, but now that the sidebar bug is fixed, I can actually play the game and am happy to give this 5 stars. Even on my tiny 4S, this port is totally functional and playable. Incredible considering the detail and complexity of the game. Thank you so much for the fix!

Steepest learning curve ever

Holy crap is this game confusing. It has tons of menus, all of which are given a name, but the symbols representing the name are never really explained. So during the tutorial youre just tapping around wondering where the hell the list of spells are. Its takes sooooo long to figure it out. But once you do, its pretty freaking fun.

First Impressions

After reading all the "rave reviews" on this PC to ISO port, like an idiot I bought into the hype and purchased this title. One review hit the nail on the head. While graphically stunning, the game is harder than it should be to understand what the Tutorial is actually trying to make you do. Without an image of the "icon" we are being instructed to use I found myself clicking on everything to find what they were talking about. But after several failed attempts the NPC was kind enough to explain it a little bit better. But its just not good enough and really talks away from any enjoyment one might expect to get from such a great game. I highly recommend that no one purchase this title until the Tutorial has been redone so that you can move on and learn as you go. Do you really think telling us to do one thing after another, for God only knows how long, that we would remember all that stuff? Teach the game to it as we go... Show us as we need to know it. Very Disappointed. Oh, and only because I am forced to give it atleast one star, which should be against any thing that resembles a moral, thats all I think it deserves right now. The uninformative tutorial just ruins what should be an awesome beginning to an Epic Quest.

Great Port!

This game is great! I saw another review that said this game was awful due to the lack of a tutorial and I will admit it has a very steep learning curve, but it remains true to the original PC game. A few technical flaws hold it back from being perfect, but all in all great! Just dont expect a casual gaming experience.

Perfect.

I played through Baldurs Gate when it was originally released many years ago and played it again five years later and then yet again five years later. Unfortunately, my old computer went toast and I swore off PC gaming forever because of the ridiculous costs and hassles of keeping a computer up to date. I had long thought the iPhone and iPad could make perfect platforms for some old classic games. And here it is-- Baldurs Gate, in full iPad glory. Zooming made easy, click with a finger, and you can see all containers easily. I just finished it tonight and Im a completionist, which means I look in every container and in every nook and cranny for content. There were zero problems and many old bugs fixed. [I do wish they wouldve fixed the old character scripting issue for thieves set to "Thief Aggressive" where pathing is interrupted whenever the thief automatically attempts to hide in shadows and/or a failure of shadow hiding, but alas...] A friend bought this game for me... I didnt know of its existence on iPad prior to then. Now Im downloading BG 2 and then Icewind Dale. I do hope Icewind Dale 2 AND Planescape: Torment are in the works!!

Gamma and Light a major issue

One of my favorite games, I still have the CD-ROMs for this game. I was able to adjust the gamma so I could play the game. I cannot even see the screen to play the game, thus is a must to get fixed. I am going to contact customer support for the game if I can to see if they are willing to do an update.

Old RPGs

I totally miss the old RPGs I played back in the day and this was one of them. I was so disappointed with the interface system they could have done better with this ;( please change it!! So we can play it better !
